How to Pay for Assisted Living and Senior Care
When it comes to affordable assisted living and senior care, it’s important to understand your options. Once you’ve spoken with one of our sales counselors to determine the level of service needed and costs associated with that service, the next step may be to look for financial help. Fortunately, there are a variety of options for seniors when it comes to paying for senior care:
Veterans Benefits
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) offers up to $2000 per month to help cover the cost of assisted living for military veterans and their spouses. For additional information about the Aide and Attendance program, contact your local Veterans Benefits Administration National Call Center at (800) 827-1000 to find out if you qualify, or click the button below.
Long-Term Care Insurance
If you have a long-term care insurance policy, it may cover the cost of assisted living. Features and benefits vary by insurance provider and policy details. Call your insurance representative for details regarding what your policy covers. The Arbors and The Ivy are happy to work with insurance providers to help provide the care you deserve.
Income Tax Deduction
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) offers tax deductions for qualified long-term care services. This may be deductible from your gross income as an itemized deduction. While our team is not able to give tax advice, we encourage our residents to speak with their accountant or financial advisor about this benefit.
Companion Apartments
A great option for residents who want companionship and a cost-effective retirement is to live with a roommate. Bring a senior friend to stay with you at The Arbors and The Ivy or allow us to match you with someone to help share the apartment space and mitigate costs! A companion apartment means a private bedroom, with shared common areas like the kitchen and living room.
Low-Income Housing Tax Credit Program
Get help with assisted living costs from the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit program (LIHTC) at three of our participating communities, including:
- Chicopee
- Greenfield
- Westfield
If your income falls within certain guidelines, this program will offer lower monthly rental costs. Please contact us to inquire about availability at these locations and your eligibility for this program.
