It’s Not About the Pretty Walls, It’s About the Foundation

It is inevitable. Every one of us faces that moment when we ask ourselves, “What are we going to do with mom and dad?”. It usually is followed by an event that has happened. Dad left the stove on again or Mom slipped in the shower for the third time this week. Constantly worrying about your aging parents while juggling your own careers and family can be emotionally overwhelming. Luckily for you, there is most likely an assisted living in town or a new one built in the town next over. Now, how do you choose? The reality is all assisted living communities are the same type of product, a place that provides the elderly with care and services. Every sales director is going to give you their pitch on how delicious the food is, how fun the activities are or how amazing the care staff is. After years in the business, there is one thing that I have learned to be true, “it’s not just about the pretty walls, it’s about the foundation”. This is what brought me to The Arbors. Not only do we offer excellent care and services, but we have our own individual twist on it. “Our family taking care of your family” philosophy is our foundation. It was the vision of two siblings, Ernie Gralia and Carole Veratti. They imagined a senior living community that offered a home-like environment, with great care and outstanding staff for an exceptional value. As new residents moved in and staff were onboarded, each person was embraced with their family values. It has allowed our company to grow and thrive for over 20 years. Recently, I had the pleasure of watching an associate of ours grow his career from within the company. Anthony joined The Arbors in 2015 working as a part-time dishwasher in Stoneham. Ubering back and forth to work, Anthony never missed a shift. When the opportunity presented itself to help serve on the food-line one day a week, Anthony stepped up to the plate. The Arbors saw promise in Anthony and committed to helping his career growth. Six years later, Anthony has not only grown his culinary skillset but has moved on to take the Food Service Director position in our Dracut community. Residents rave about his dishes and caring thought that goes behind each meal. Anthony is one of many success stories at The Arbors. This is who we are and what we are about. When the time comes to choose an assisted living for your loved one, I encourage you to dig deeper while doing your research. Ask questions of the staff and the residents about their experience. Learn about the history of the company and what its values and mission are. Do not choose the assisted living that has fancy furniture or pretty walls. Look for the one with a strong-rooted foundation. The Arbors.
