Memory care: A form of long-term care that caters to patients with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia and other forms of memory loss. The Arbors at Dracut does exactly that with their memory care community, The Reflections, providing a space for those with memory loss to live their best life. Having a local memory care community has helped many residents stay local and live near family members, rather than moving away to a different town.

Close to Family

Being close to family is important for Lorianne, a resident at The Reflections Memory Care Program at The Arbors at Dracut. While living on her own, Lorianne fell and broke her hip, requiring hip replacement surgery and time in rehabilitation to regain her strength. Her family decided she was no longer safe to live on her own and noticed her memory loss was worsening. They wanted her to live nearby so they could be a part of caring for her. There aren’t a lot of options for memory care in the Dracut area. But after touring The Reflections at The Arbors at Dracut, Lorianne’s family knew it was the perfect match. “We really enjoy having mom here. We’re all only 30 minutes away, and know that she’s being taken care of,” says her son, Rick. When Rick and his siblings were searching for a memory care community near them, they wanted a place where they would be included in their mom’s care plan. “We’re a really close family. It’s important for us to look out for our mom, even if she’s not living with one of us. We can trust the staff here (at The Arbors at Dracut) and know they’re always looking out for mom, caring for her as a person, not just as a number in the system,” says Rick. Not only does Rick visit his mother weekly, he helped spread cheer throughout the community over the holidays. He dressed up as Santa, posed for photos with resident’s family members, staff and even delivered presents to each of the residents.

Person-Centered Approach to Care

Like the individualized care Lorianne receives, Dracut is committed to caring for each resident using a “person-centered approach” which helps residents navigate the good days, and the tough days. By using a blend of aroma therapy, quiet places to allow residents the opportunity to express themselves, a therapy doll to help calm anxiety and nerves and guided conversations to reach the deeper emotion and need they’re looking to be met, are used. Also, there are diffusers in each room that use different scents to help calm residents. From peppermint to help a tired resident wake on a dreary day to lavender to help calm a resident when they may be more restless than usual. The Reflections Memory Care Program at The Arbors at Dracut is designed to keep your loved one engaged and active in a safe, homelike environment. We promote the highest quality of life by adapting our staff, environment and daily routine to the needs of each individual regardless of their level of memory loss.
